A Simple Painted Project - Painted Chair

We have made it to day 31 of this series! If you have been reading along from the beginning, thank you for sticking it out.

This particular painted chair isn't spectacular, but I saved it for last because is gives you a sneak peek at my new office nook that I will be revealing in the near future.

I have been working on my new office nook and needed a new chair for my desk. I have one chair left from the first dining room set we ever purchased that I am using as a stand in until I find exactly what I want. I want something a little more comfy, but this is working for now.

I used my favorite green spray paint, Ivy Leaf by Krylon. I took it outside, wiped it down with a de-glosser, add a coat of primer, and then a few coats of paint. It was very simple. I really like the pop of green with my new white desk.

I hope you have enjoyed this series. It was fun looking back at old projects and doing a few new ones. A Simple Painted Project will always be my favorite.

A Simple Painted Project - The Rattan Chair

This is one of the projects that I finished last week. I found this set of rattan chairs on Craigslist a few years ago and recovered the seats. I went back and forth about painting them, so I  decided to put it off until I was SURE that I wanted them painted.

I finally decided that I wanted to paint the chair white. (The chairs are now separated. One in the living room and one in the office.) That lead to needing to find fabric to recover the cushions. I happened to run across this green and white shower curtain (new in package) at Goodwill. It was originally from Target.

The chair was very simple to to paint. I removed the cushions and then took it outside to spray paint. It took 2 cans of paint. I just used several thin coats and then let it dry.

A Simple Painted Project - Painted Interior Front Doors

These doors have been quite the project. The painting was the simple part! The door handles quite working properly and needed to be replaced. It involved lots of patching and sanding. Since the handles had to be replaced and would need to be painted again, I took the opportunity to finally get the paint color right.

I am FINALLY very happy with this color. I had Home Depot color match Sherwin Williams -
Urban Bronze. The color is finally just right for this room.

There are several different ways to go about painting doors. I prefer to paint the inside panel, let it dry, paint up and down, let it dry, and then right to left.

If you are only painting one door, the project is even simpler.

A Simple Painted Project - Chalkboard Closet Doors

I have been working on our boys' playroom for a while now. We are still making progress. One of the simple projects I did was to turn there closet doors into a chalkboard.

I wasn't planning to do this, but happened to find a can of navy blue chalkboard paint on the oops cart at Lowes for $5. I couldn't resist.

It was very simple to do. I used a small foam roller and add 3 coats of chalkboard paint.

My boys really enjoy drawing on it. Chalk is REALLY messy, so I save if for special occasions, and then vacuum right after, but it is totally worth it.

A Simple Painted Project - Chalkboard Made from Wood

This is one of those projects that has been on my to do list for far too long. Way back in July, I made plans to lighten up our dining room and a large chalkboard to make to make it more functional since we also use it as our homeschool room. I did paint the room, but it took me a while to get around to making the chalkboard. Mainly because there were about 14.5 other things ahead of it on my to do list.

I used a large scrap of luan that was left over from another project, cut it to size, painted it with chalkboard paint, and then had my husband screw it directly on the wall.

I normally use the spray chalkboard paint, but I went with the roll on kind this time. I didn't have any primer on hand, so I just used a coat of regular wall paint first, and then went over it with the chalkboard paint. I think it took 3 full coats, but I can't remember for sure. It was still very simple.

I may eventually frame this, but for now I really like it as it is.

A Simple Painted Project - Silhouettes

Have you every painted silhouettes before? They are pretty simple. You just need a profile picture.

Once you have the profile picture you can cut out the picture and then use it to trace the silhouette onto the canvas or whatever it is that you want the silhouette on. Once you have traced the silhouette you just fill it in with paint.

Have you ever painted silhouettes?

A Simple Painted Project - Painted Urns

Today I am talking about this paint urn that is on my frond porch. I was in the process of another project on the porch, so I only photographed one, but there is actually a pair.

I found these in my neighbors trash pile. Yes, they look rough. Yes, they are plastic. But, a little bit of black spray paint that is made for plastic, and they look as good as new. Very Simple!

A Simple Painted Project - Bamboo Framed Chalkboard

I wanted to show you another chalkboard.

This one started out as a bamboo frame with an ugly print. I picked it up at the thrift store a few years ago for around $4.

I sprayed the frame white and then sprayed the glass of the frame with chalkboard paint. It was very simple.

I don't display this frame anymore on a daily basis, but it is perfect for special occasions.

A Simple Painted Project - The Green Lamp

I have another quick painted lamp for you today. Do you remember the thrifted lamp that I painted orange? I really liked the orange, but I changed directions with the room, and needed to choose another color.

I ended up repainting the lamp in my favorite Ivy Leaf Green by Krylon.

Do you have something that you have painted over and over?

A Simple Painted Project - Add a Pop of Color to Built Ins

Ok, so painting the back of Built Ins is exactly like painting the back of a bookcase.

It is still one of my favorite, simple ways to add a pop of color and totally change the look of a space. It doesn't take much paint, and it can be done in a short period of time.

I thought I would show the progression of these particular built ins. They are constantly changing.

A Simple Painted Project - Abstract Art

I would not consider myself an artist, but I can be pretty crafty.

I needed a large piece of art to hand up in our entry way, but I couldn't really find anything that I really liked. You know what that means...time to make it myself. I chose to keep it simple. I used colors that were all somewhat similar and just started painting. Don't be afraid of paint. You can just keep painting until you get the look you want. It really is pretty simple.

A Simple Painted Project - Update a Ceiling Fan With Paint

I know that not everyone is a fan of ceiling fans. I live in a two story house in South Alabama, so they are a must! I will make no apologies for them.

When we moved into this house the ceiling fan in our den looked like this.

There are a few reasons I chose to paint the ceiling fan instead of just replacing it.
1. I was able to complete this simple painted project for less than $10.
2. I HATE the light kit on all of the newer ceiling fans. I prefer the ones that actually give off light from regular light bulbs.

I had my husband take the fan down, and then I took it apart very carefully so that I could paint it. It really was fairly simple. I did one coat of spray primer and then a few coats of oil rubbed bronze spray paint. I also flipped then fan blades over to the darker side.
