Nightstand Before and After

After

My nightstand is complete and I couldn't be happier with how it turned out.

Before

I inherited this nightstand from my husband's grandmother
when she gave us the dresser for the nursery.


My list of supplies included a deglosser, spray primer, spray paint in glossy white, metallic silver spray paint (not pictured), and a rag for applying the deglosser.


Since this piece had a laminate top I chose to use a deglosser instead of sanding it down. This product is great and it really makes the job a lot less messy. Just follow the directions on the back of the bottle.


Once the nightstand was deglossed I started painting.
I used 2 thin, even coats of primer, and then 3 coats of paint.

I went back and forth about changing the hardware or painting the existing hardware. In the end I chose to just paint the existing hardware. The pulls are an odd size and I really just didn't want to fool with puttying the wholes since I liked the existing hardware. I knew that if I later changed my mind it would not be a big deal to fill the holes and repaint the drawers. Since I have a new baby I just needed this project to be as simple as it could be.

The Nursery List Revisited and a New Project

This list is getting smaller and the nursery is really coming together. Everything has turned out just like I wanted.

I still will not be showing any pics until it is all done sometime next month.

BEFORE

I will tell you that we got a dresser that got a fabulous makeover and it will be in the nursery. It looks amazing! My husbands grandmother was getting rid of some things and they just happened to be things that I have had on my want list. Major score!

Office
-purge, have yard sale, and donate - DONE
-put together new desk - DONE

Cade's Room

Bookcase Rehab

I have a corner in my living room that was in need of a bookcase. I would love a tall one, but I really didn't want to spend the money on one right now. I pulled this bookcase out of a closet and decided to rehab it.


-Here is what I started with. A cheap, ugly, generic bookcase.


-We cut 2X4's and attached them to the bottom to raise it up some.



-Then we added base board molding to the bottom and left over chair railing to the top of the bookcase.

-Filled in the spaces with caulk so that I wouldn't have to use as much wood putty.


-Puttied the rest, sanded, primed and painted it black.


This has not been accessorized yet. I'm still not sure exactly what I want. I definitely need to get some lighter baskets and some white items, but I haven't decided what yet.

Overall I think it is much better than before, and I don't feel like I have to buy a bookcase right now. I could have added a lot more molding and really beefed it up, but I knew that this wasn't something that I would keep for years to come, so I just couldn't justify spending more money on this project.

Nightstand Rehab

I used to have a bedside table, but really wanted something with drawers. I also didn't really want to spend any money on one at this point. So, I took the one out of my son's room. He has a lot of furniture so he didn't really need it anyway.

This nightstand was given to us (along with some other furniture) when I was pregnant with my son. It was in desperate need of a new look. During it's first rehab it was painted navy.



Do you see the part where it is missing some paint? Well, the little boy of the house noticed a scratch or bubble (or something) and peeled the paint. Nice!

I had a hard time deciding what color I wanted to paint this nightstand. I knew I didn't want black or white. So, I went to Lowe's and looked at the oops paint just to see what they had. The had a gallon of paint that was the same color as my bedding. Easy enough.

I took it home and got to work. A few hours later it looks like this.



Now, I have a question for you. How many furniture rehabs ( not frames and candlesticks) are currently in your home? How many are white? How many are black? How many are a different color? How many are stained?
