That's What He Said

I should be kicking myself for not starting this sooner. Cade and Henry say some of the funniest things, and I really want to remember them. I didn't write down all of Cade's funnies because I thought I would just remember, but that really isn't the case. I forget, and I don't want to forget. There have been a few that stick out in mind from the last few weeks, so It's time to just start.

Me- what do you want for lunch?
Henry- not PB crackers. I want a SANDWICH...with no PB, and no lid. Just jelly.
Me- do you want it toasted?
Henry- yes
Me- so you want a piece of toast with jelly on it?
Henry- yes

This one is actually from today. Cade and Henry were playing nicely together. No yelling or fighting, just fun imaginative play. Cade built them both pretty impressive looking guns out of legos and tinker toys. They were on some kind of special mission when I heard this.

Henry -  It's time for lunch, I think we'll have chicken and a DEER LEG. I think I'll have salsa on the deer leg.

Henry Turns 4!

My sweet Henry turned 4 today.

He has been really excited about his birthday for a few weeks. I have been a little bit sad.

If you know Henry well, you know that he likes his sippy cup full of milk. He also frequently asks for me to hold him like a baby while he drinks his milk. He told us several months ago that when he turned 4 he wasn't going to drink from his sippy cup anymore. The night before his birthday I asked if I could hold him while he drank his milk. He of course let me, and I cried like a baby thinking about my baby not being a baby anymore.

He woke up super excited about his birthday. He also requested his milk in a big cup, and said he wasn't kidding. That boy!

He put on a birthday hat and had a cupcake for breakfast before church.

He was REALLY excited about church today. Turning 4 means moving up to the next class. He will now have a memory verse to memorize like big brother, and earn Bible Bucks. This is a big deal to this little guy. When we got out of the car he looked at me and said, "I can run with Cade now, because I'm 4!" I wasn't far behind him, and heard him announcing to all of the ushers and our Pastor on the way in that he was now 4!

All of our family came over for lunch and cupcakes. We had fun celebrating his big day with everyone.

He took charge opening gifts. Then it was time for cupcakes. I took this opportunity to snap some pics of the birthday boy with everyone.

Sweet boy!

Snow Day 2014

Ok, so it wasn't much snow, but the boys are excited to see it. The last time is snowed in our town was Feb. 2010, the day after we brought Henry home from the hospital. Or maybe it was the day of. My brain was a little foggy.

They got up early and woke us up so that they could go play it in. They lasted about 10 minutes in the cold. I think it would have been more exciting if there had been a little bit more.

Cade Turns 8

My sweet Cade is 8 today! I know I say this every year, but it just doesn't seem possible.

This year for his birthday we decided to take him to Blues Angel Music in Pensacola so that he could see the fish tank that was featured on the TV show Tanked, his favorite show. It was such a fun day. The fish tank was exciting, but he also got sucked into the coolness of the music store. He has mentioned a few times that he would like to learn to play the guitar. While we were in the store he was introduced to the ukulele and decided that that would be the instrument he wanted to learn. It was kind of spur of the moment (if you know my husband, he doesn't usually make purchases that haven't been well thought out), but we gave him the option of getting the ukulele or the other gift he had been asking for. He chose the ukulele.

Cade also wanted to eat at PF Chang's, so we drove the extra miles to Destin, FL. It was his birthday!

We are having a family dinner tonight and then 3 of his friends are going to spend the night. I have done big parties for him in the past, but the smaller ones always seem to me more fun for everyone.

Happy Birthday Cade! We love you!

Slime + Office Nook Progress

Okay, I could have been a little more creative with the title, but this is what you get.

My boys came across a YouTube Video on making SLIME several months ago. I decided we would turn it into a play date homeschool science experiment, and invite some other kids/moms from our Mom's Meetup Group. You know, because making slime with a bunch of boys sounded more fun than just two!

I, of course, turned to Pinterest when it came time to decide on a recipe for said slime. I finally landed on this one, from Little Bit Funky. The recipe worked great, and we had success with both the clear glue and the regular white glue.  I think it's safe to say that all of the boys had fun, but I know for sure that mine had a blast. I am still picking up little pieces of slime from the floor, but that is only because Henry thought it would be fun to throw it, so it kind of exploded into little pieces.

I was a bad mommy and didn't get a group picture of everyone with their slime, but I did have my boys pose for a quick pic.

I think they were aggravated that I made them look away from the slime to look at me.

In other news, I have made some progress with the office nook. Before you look at this and wonder if progress has really been made, please know that this is real time. I have a real (small) budget, and haven't had a ton of time to work on this. I am also really trying to think through all of my decisions to make sure that it REALLY functions well. I will eventually get to the pretty part.

This is where we started. You can read the details here about how I needed to add some more functional storage.

The first thing we did was unplug everything and untangle all of the messy wires. There are still a lot of visible wires, but we aren't done yet. We moved the tower to the other side of the desk, and then added this ClosetMaid Cubeicals Cube Organizer from Target. The size and price were right.

I am still trying to decide what containers I want to use. I originally wanted to use some from Thirty-One ( they are the perfect shape, color, and size for the cubes), but I decided that I needed something smaller so that the items could be more organized. This shelf is holding a lot of stuff, and smaller, more specific categories are going to work better. So, the search continues.

I did just win a $50 gift card from Staples via Two Twenty One. I plan to use it to help me finish up the little project. We don't have a Staples locally, but this will be a good reason to finally get my hands on some of the Martha Stewart Home Office with Avery items that I keep seeing everyone use.

Do you have any items from her line that are a must? Do tell.

Imagination

I LOVE watching my boys play together. They have the best imagination and come up with some pretty cool things to do.

The other day they were outside playing and asked me to come outside to "watch them race". The stroller was the race car and Cade was the driver. He pushed Henry around and around our drive way.

And then they loaded up and traveled to the next race. Do you think they have watched CARS much?

Sweet Summer time!

Summer Fun

Summer is finally here! I am so happy that it is time put up the school books for a few months and just have fun. This is the first Summer that we haven't had to deal with swim diapers. Do you know how much easier that makes going swimming?

We have made one trip to one of the Florida State parks for a little swimming. This place holds lots of childhood memories for me. I'm pretty sure we went here at least once a week during the Summer.

We don't have any big plans or vacations planned for this Summer, but I do plan to enjoy these two boys and make some fun memories. I think we need to make a list of all of the things we want to do so that we make sure we fit it all in.

And here is the photo dump from our first Summer outing.

Does anyone else plan to stay around town and just do a bunch of fun little things? Have you made a list or will you just wing it?
