Nightstand Before and After

After

My nightstand is complete and I couldn't be happier with how it turned out.

Before

I inherited this nightstand from my husband's grandmother
when she gave us the dresser for the nursery.

My list of supplies included a deglosser, spray primer, spray paint in glossy white, metallic silver spray paint (not pictured), and a rag for applying the deglosser.

Since this piece had a laminate top I chose to use a deglosser instead of sanding it down. This product is great and it really makes the job a lot less messy. Just follow the directions on the back of the bottle.

Once the nightstand was deglossed I started painting.
I used 2 thin, even coats of primer, and then 3 coats of paint.

I went back and forth about changing the hardware or painting the existing hardware. In the end I chose to just paint the existing hardware. The pulls are an odd size and I really just didn't want to fool with puttying the wholes since I liked the existing hardware. I knew that if I later changed my mind it would not be a big deal to fill the holes and repaint the drawers. Since I have a new baby I just needed this project to be as simple as it could be.

  3. What a wonderful job! And I'm going to have to remember "deglosser," because I have about 20 different projects I could use that on. ;) I have three boys ages 7, 5 and 2, so I enjoyed looking around your blog. I will come back to visit! You have a beautiful family.

I had that exact bedroom set (with ALL the pieces, including chair and desk) as a child. My mom still has it... maybe not for long ;)
