The Dining Room

I have finally taken the time to make our dining room reflect our style. I have made some small inexpensive changes that have totally changed the look.

Here is the after.

Because this is a rental I don't want to spend the money to upgrade the mini blinds to bamboo shades, but this window needed some texture. I chose to add a burlap valance to break up the white.

I'm still hunting for two chairs to put on either side of the buffet. I'm looking for chairs that I can paint with upholstered seats. I think that will be an easy place to add some pattern. I've been looking for months, but refuse to be impatient. I will find them.

I took all of the knick-knack junk off of the shelves that had been acquired and opted for framed photos and words. Much cleaner.

Price Break Down
-Oops Paint for the Walls - $5
-White Curtains - $10
-Burlap Valance - $3
-Curtain Rod - Target Clearance - $7
-Frames- Already Had
-3 Sconces - $20
-Table Runner - Made from leftover fabric

Not bad for about $45.

Still Want To
-Paint chairs and table ( I would prefer new chairs with a more modern style, but not just yet)
-Find 2 chairs for either side of the buffet
-New light fixture

Here is what I want to know from you.
What color would you paint the table and chairs? I'm not digging color of the stain on the chairs. It has too much red in it.

Do I leave the table black and just paint the chairs? What color?

Do I stain the chairs a darker espresso or walnut color and paint the table?

I don't care for the style of the chairs, but they stay until we buy a house. I prefer cleaner lines, but can't change that about these. I don't want to paint them if they are going to look more "cottagy".

I have a few ideas, but haven't settled on anything just yet.

Oh, and here are a few before pictures.

  2. It looks great! I think you should keep the black table and maybe paint the chairs. I posted a pics with a black table and some blue chairs not to long ago. I think you could go with any color. Can't wait to see what you do.

  3. I love the changes you made, although I like the before pics as well. I think the table looks good as is but I'm sure any changes you make will look good.

  5. Wow, what a makeover for $45! I love the softness of the windows next to the dark tone of the table. Great work!
