Creating Custom Artwork with Just a Frame and Paint
You don't have to have something to frame to create custom artwork. You simply need a frame that has a press board type back, a few painting supplies, and a vision of what you want.
I knew that for this project I wanted to create stripes. I kind of have a thing for stripes and they are easy to create with painters tape.
Take you frame backs and paint them whatever color that you want. I chose white. I will tell you that I first tried spray primer and spray paint and wasn't getting good coverage. I got out the craft paint and brush and had much better results.
Once your base color is dry tape your stripe pattern and paint them. Continue painting until your stripes are nice and opaque. This will usually take many coats of paint depending on the colors you are using. Be sure to allow for adequate dry time in between coats. I will also give you a tip for painting with craft paint. If you will dip your brush in just a bit of water each time before dipping it in your paint you will thin the paint out just enough to get smoother coverage.
Once your paint is dry just put the frame backs back in the frame and hang them on your wall. You are done.
Creating a project list really got me motivated to get busy. I was able to do this yesterday afternoon between feedings and diaper changes while H napped. C sat at the table and painted with water colors while I painted so he had fun with me. It was so nice to paint something again even if it was only stripes. Now I can mark "Paint New Artwork for Over the Master Bed" off of the list.
Here is the inspiration for painting on the frame backs.
