Don't Step on Your Kid

It will make you cry.
He will cry.
Your husband will check him over and assure you that he is fine, he may be sore, but fine.
His feet are not bruised or swollen.
You will believe your husband, but still feel bad.
You will watch his every move.
You will watch him hold his little foot and cry/whine.
You will cry and scoop him up to try and comfort him.
When he doesn't stand up in his crib you will think that you really did hurt him.
You will watch him not want to stand up and you will cry more.
After 2 days of you crying you will take him for X-rays just to be sure.
The Dr. will tell you he is fine. Just a little bruised. Give him a few weeks and he will be as good as new.
You will take sweet baby home.
You will then notice that every time you tell baby "no" for something he holds his little foot to whine.

You will figure out that baby is playing you. He figured out that he gets lots of extra attention when he holds his foot and whines.

You will still be glad that you know he really is okay, but wow, you have your work cut out for you. This kid is good.

Side note - If you ask him where his foot is, he will point to it and pout.

  1. Hilarious! I would gave done the same thing. Henry is one smart cookie. Is that why you sent me that text yesterday? I was wondering if there was something wrong with one of the boys.

  2. I'm sure girls can be the same way, but I think boys especially have a way to get to Mommy's heart like none other. It's these priceless little memories that make life so much fun!

  4. Oh man, once, when Gracie was 18 months old, she got mad that we were leaving the park, and while I held her hand, she decided to throw herself to the ground... and dislocated her elbow. I had to take her to the ER and she screamed and cried for AGES and had to have x-rays... I knew it wasn't my fault, and even the folks in the ER didn't question me for child abuse because I guess it's a common thing (they call it 'nursemaid's elbow') but MAN did that feel rotten!

Hugs to you, Nikki!! Cute story, and I'm glad he's fine!!! :)

  7. Glad everything is okay and have to say he is really clever to know how to milk this situation, nothing like mommy guilt, huh? Again glad everything is okay!
